How did you get started in BMX racing?

Funny story, I actually got bit by a dog when I was a little kid.  I received a little money to pay for doctor bills and had some left over.  So it was either Go Karts for me and my bro, or BMX bikes!  I think I made a good choice haha.  Went to my first race and won, and the rest is history!

You are one of the few US riders chosen to stay and train at the Olympic Training Center.  With so many talented riders out there, this is a big honor to be hand-picked for the opportunity to represent your country.  What does this mean to you?

It is for sure a huge honor and I am stoked at the opportunity to be able to train and live at the OTC.  I am putting in a lot of work and learning a lot.  I know it will pay off soon and see some big podiums in the future!

If you were chosen as one of the riders to go to the 2012 Olympics in London, what would that mean to you?

That would mean everything to me!  I have changed my whole life, moved, and given everything to bring me to that point.  I would be so happy to be part of the 2012 games!  I made it 1 step away last time, so this time around I want to be in it!

Even though you still race the ABA circuit, most of your training and focus is on Supercross track racing as this is the type of racing that will get you to the Olympics.  How has this type of riding changed racing for you.

With the SX series, the Worlds, and of course the Olympics all being in the SX style of track everything is headed that way.  Of course I love regular bmx races, but all the big titles are now on the SX style tracks.  So of course a lot of focus is put into that.  Racing those races are so fast and fun.  It is way more unpredictable then regular BMX, but bigger the risk, bigger the reward!

You were one of the few American riders invited to go to Korea for a race.  Korea is not known for BMX racing but now that BMX is an Olympic Sport, it seems they want to be. What was racing in Korea like and do you see Korean riders (like Chinese riders) getting more into the sport?

Haha that race was CRAZY!  The track was the wildest thing I have ever seen.  I think some one saw a picture of a bmx track and went “Oh I can do that.”  It was an interesting experience, but glad that is not an every weekend race haha.  I think China, Korea, and any place like that is for sure getting into BMX.  You never know some solid talent could come out of there some day?

Who is your favorite or most respected rider on the track and why:

I would have to say Stumpy.  He is a great guy off the track and the man on the track!  One of the best careers to date, and he is still killing it!  I would be happy if I could have half as many victories as he has had.

What are your goals for both life and racing?  When your racing career ends, what do you want to do with your life?:

With BMX that is easy.  I want to be #1!  I want some titles, and some major wins!  With life, I want to live a happy comfortable life.  Find something I enjoy to do and get paid for it, like I do now.  Put God and family first, and live the dream!

Speaking of plans after BMX I hear you are starting your own online bike store.

That is correct.  I am starting my own shop, and stoked to have it finally up and running.  It is called 316racingonline.com  The site is there to offer racers the best quality product at the best price out there.  I know growing up racing on a single family budget, bike parts can be expensive!  So for now we are offering NO shipping costs in the USA, and free shipping to all international orders over $300.  Not to mention tons of specials on all the hot products out.

It is something that I am really excited about.  It gives me a chance to promote myself, my sponsors, and help out the BMX community any way I can.  It is fully rider owned and operated and all the profits will be going back into bmx through rider sponsorship, and promotion!

What racing tip or advice would you like to give other riders:

I know everyone says this, but stick with your dream!  If you want something bad enough you can make it happen.  Don’t let any person or obstacle get in the way of your dreams.  Just go out there and make it happen!
